Your Opinion?

by Colleen Cox
(Grand Junction, CO)

My name is Colleen, I live in Colorado. My husband and I are planning on moving to Hawaii in the near future (likely 2012). We are both working to earn our degree as Masters prepared nurses, which will enable us to practice independently as health care providers. As I research possible islands for relocation, I am getting a very hostile vibe from islanders, regarding our migration. I wonder, in your opinion if this anti-new-comer behavior lasts forever, or just until people recognize us as helpful and contributing members of the community? I hope that after the locals realize that my husband and I are available to take care of them, (in a medicinal way) that there might be acceptance? You seem to be an honest and unbiased person, from your posts... can you offer me some insight?

Your welcome Colleen

I doubt we'll have our license by then. But I would be inclined to take you guys on a free trial run as non paying guests so you could give us feed back on the tour and a testimonial of how good it was.

We'll probably do 4 or 5 free tours to get our act together in the upcoming months.

If you're interested Colleen, use the contact button on the left navigation menu to send me the date you'd like to go.

Thanks

Thanks for your quick response! I appreciate your candor. When my hubby and I get to Kona in March, I will look you up and maybe we can book a tour with your wife?

My 2 Cents

It's been going on since before I got here over 13 years ago. But I take it with a grain of salt. This attitude is prevalent among folks who look to outside sources for their happiness. If somehow the world would just behave all would be good in their world sort of thinking...

I hope that after the locals realize that my husband and I are available to take care of them, (in a medicinal way) that there might be acceptance?

If they're bleeding to death, you bet they'll accept you. LOL.

I had similar thoughts years ago when I was planning my move here. Will they accept me? Etc. It turns out when they need their car fixed, they love me.

When I say "they" I mean everyone who lives here including the host culture and those who've relocated from other parts of the world.

I find just trying to fit in go's a long way. They basically don't care how you do it on the mainland. That's a topic for another post so I'll not go there right now.

Speaking of cars, I got to go back to work... J.T.
