World Famous Artist Pays Tribute To Hawaii, Native Hawaiians
Hilo, HI
The world renowned Italian artist Mirko is heading to the Big Island of Hawaii to exhibit a collection he has created that is dedicated to Hawaii and its native people. The Hilo Art Museum has partnered with the historic Hilo Palace Theater for this event, which takes place from February 23-27, 2009. The exhibition is free to attend, and the hours are Monday through Friday, 9am until 4pm. Mirko has also generously decided to donate a large portion of the sales of these pieces to the museum so that it may continue to bring art of the world to Hawaii, and art of Hawaii to the world.
Mirko was born on the Amalfi Coast in Italy, and is a direct descendant of Prince Gisulfo II of Salerno. He studied under the Dutch artist Frans Brugman and the two remained close friends until Brugman's death in 2002. When Mirko was just 18 years old, several of his works were purchased by Gore Vidal. Since that time, his pieces have been collected by people around the world, including names like Robert Zemeckis and Rupert Murdoch. His works have also graced the walls in such institutions as the San Diego Museum of Modern Art, El Museo Cultural in New Mexico and Walker Fine Art in New York.
This will be Mirko's first exhibition since his successfully sold out show at the Bottaccio Grand Gallery in London last November.
