Mauna Kea

by Mary Lovein
(Big Island of Hawaii)

The sparkling snow and Maxfield Parrish blue sky is so unexpected. We knew it was up there but there was no sign of it and then suddenly the landscape was like a different world. Even the drive up there had some plants we had never seen before. We took cardboard and slid down some soft slopes face first. You have to be in pretty good shape to move freely at the elevation of the summit. Take it slow.
