Joe's Best Kona Map Tip for Exploring The Big Island

Google

Kona Map Kona MapKona Map

When you're visiting you will need a good Kona map.

A topo map is ok for a general idea of where you are. But if you want the best most detailed map available then you need "The Ready Mapbook of West Hawaii."This map book is what I use when I need to find directions. It's the best.

Download Big Island Map PDF file here

Some of its best information is locations of all the hotels and condominiums. So all you do is look it up in the index and it tells you what page and where to look.

Another important feature is the book shows the name and location of the 3 hospitals on the west side of the island. Actually it shows four, but I don't believe the one listed as Keauhou Rehab. & Healthcare is a place you could get care if you were injured or sick.

If it was me and I was in Kona I would go to Kona Hospital. If I was closer to Waimea I'd go to North Hawaii Community Hospital and if I was in Kohala I'd go to Kohala Hospital. There is considerable distance between each one.

There's three ways to get the Kona map book, one is by calling the publisher toll free at: 877-535-1046 Two is: ordering from their web site Click here to order the Kona Map Book and the third way to order is going to Borders bookstore on the corner of Henry St. and Queen Kaahumanu Hwy. The map you get at the rental car place is good enough to get you to Borders.

Now you need one more book to go with your map. It's a guide book called "Hawaii The Big Island Revealed" its da bomb!

I've lived here over 10 years and I still find new places to go in this book that I didn't even know about! Amazing. If I were you I'd buy it before coming to visit so you can map out things to see before you arrive. It also has some pretty good maps in it. But nothing like the above mentioned map book.

Now that you're armed with the best information possible to explore the island. More insider tips you should know
