Kona Coffee Nightingale Donkeys Mass Population Problem

by Joe Trent
(Kailua Kona )

Up around Waikoloa there are around 600 donkeys that are decedents of the original Nightingales brought to the island to help harvest coffee before the advent of the motor vehicle.

Apparently the herd keeps growing and growing and growing, you get the picture. The problem is the herd is unmanaged. For an excellent article with links to more info, Click Here

Stepping in to help!
by: Equine 808 Horse Rescue

Equine 808 Horse Rescue on Oahu has stepped up to help CB Horse Rescue in the Waikoloa Donkey Rescue Project to care and help adopt these majestic animals. Shipping these animals to neighbor islands can be financially an issue, but the Director of Equine 808 Horse Rescue is working with shippers and transport agencies to see if something can be worked out specifically towards this project. Already, Equine 808 has one Donkey named Marty, AKA "Angel Face" that was shipped from CB Horse Rescue to Oahu. "We will do whatever we can to help find these equines forever loving homes."

Adopt one or two in a minute
by: G. Till

They are very sweet and intelligent animals if given a chance. I am sure they would adopt very well over time. Wish I had a large pasture also.

Wish I had a bigger yard
by: Joe Trent

Did you know you can adopt one of these buggers? I'd try to pass one off as a dog, but I don't think the county would buy it.

But if you got horse property, they're looking for homes for the donkeys.
