Kilauea Volcano Explosion

by Joe
(Kona)

It was reported on the local news recently that there was a small explosion down at the volcano. Interesting because this particular volcano isn't supposed to have explosions. The last one was in 1924.

There were rocks and debri scattered over 75 acres. I'd hate to see what their idea of a big explosion is.

Another weird thing going on with the volcano is the amount of vog being spewed into the atmosphere. Currently it's 10 to 20 times the normal amount. As a matter of fact it's the highest readings of Sulfur Dioxide since 1979.

The county is talking about an evacuation plan for the volcano area. That's how bad the vog is right now. So if you've been looking at the web cam and wondering what that haze is, now you know. It's vog.
