Kahakai Beach | Kahakai State Park

by Joe
(Kona)

Just north of the Kona airport a short distance is Kahakai State Park. It has a really nice beach but the road going in is terrible and it's about a mile and a half long so it will beat you to death by the time you get to the beach.

The upside is there isn't a lot of people there because of the road. Most want easy and they just go to Hapuna beach instead.

But if you're willing to put up with the bumpy road, you'll be rewarded with a very nice crescent shaped beach with a nice sandy bottom entry.

You can also hike to Makalawena beach about a mile north. Wear shoes, take water and a first aid kit as you will be a long way from help if you get hurt.
