The Hilton Waikoloa is a World Class Destination

Hilton Waikoloa Pool

Staying here is staying in paradise.

2008 Update of how to eat cheap when staying at Hilton

The swimming pools at the Hilton Waikoloa are fabulous.

The Hilton Waikoloa resort is built in a horseshoe design around a small bay. The place is so big that to get from one side of the resort to the other you have to take the monorail, that's right the hotel has it's own monorail.

Hilton Waikoloa MonorailThe monorail goes from one side of the hotel to the other and has different stops along the way, like at the lobby, restaurants, swimming pool and the minimall.

There is a major swimming pool on each side of the resort, this pool is on the opposite side of the hotel from the first pool pictured above.North pool at Waikoloa Hilton

One interesting thing about this pool is obviously it's more like a canal that meanders around the grounds and the other thing is the statues of the Chinese Year of the Bull, Dog, Monkey etc with each statue having a placard that tells which years are that particular animals "year of" in the Chinese calendar.

The monorail is the fastest way around the property. Another way around the place if you're not in hurry and you have some time, like my three little friends here, the water taxis are a nice feature of the hotel. They run like the monorail from one end of the resort to the other with stops along the way. Very nice.

One important factor you should know about. The Hilton Waikoloa resort does NOT have its own beach. Rocky lava is what surrounds the place.

But... they have a very cool lagoon. If you have small kids, that makes it somewhat safer. I say somewhat because no matter where you are around water here you should be keeping an eye on them. As you can see in the picture below the lagoon has a lot of chairs right at the waters edge and it also has a sandy bottom. No rocks in sight. In this photo you can also see to the right a waterfall and the pillars of the main part of the hotel lobby.

Another WOW feature of the resort is the dolphins.

Hilton Waikoloa Dolphins

For a nominal fee you can have what's called a dolphin experience. My word nominal is just a figure of speech by the way. I didn't ask how much, but if its anything like the $17 chicken lunch I had there... well you get the idea.

What is a dolphin experience you say? You get to snorkel swim with them. Be up close and personal. I watched one and it lasted about 10 minutes or so. It seemed like everyone enjoyed it.
