Hawaii State Flower

Credit: Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) / Joe Solem The native Hawaii state flower is Hibiscus Brackenridgei, the yellow hibiscus and in Hawaiian is called ma'o hau hele or pua aloalo. It was picked as the official state flower in 1988 though the Outdoor Circle was responsible for its choosing back in 1923. Typical Hawaii time, it only took 30 years after state hood to designate it as the official state flower. But what a lot of people don't realize is there are different types of yellow hibiscus and the state flower has a dull yellow look to it and a course texture compared to the more common species of yellow hibiscus that you see around the islands.
