Hawaii Humanne Society

by Gary T
(Seattle, Wa, USA)

When we were in Kona we visited the Hawaii Humane Society in Kona on two occasions. We found many nice dogs available as we love animals very much.

We saw one very sad little female there that we thought would be a good companion for our female at home in Washington. Well we adopted her but as we were staying in a hotel, it was impossible to take her there.

Many kokua's to the staff at the shelter as they helped us take her home. Linette, the director, brought Hoa to the airport at 745 AM as our newly adopted one had to be there by 8Am for her Hawaiian Air Flight. Godfrey at Hawaiian Air Cargo was super to work with. I had arrived early to assemble the travel kennel.

After 15 hours in her kennel, Hoa arrived at SeaTac airport. The Hawaiian Air cargo people there (Pua) were wonderful and stayed open later than their regular closing hours to get our girl to us.

Hoa, now named KOKO, is a wonderful addition to our home. She is a real sweetie and has become our best friend and a great companion to our other dog, BooBoo. They play together in our home and are insepertable.

We were very impressed with the shelter and all of their employees. It was costly to get her here to the mainland, (almost $900.00) but the joy she brings to our home is priceless.

Hopefully we can return to Kona for our retirement as we are
Kaimainas from previously living in hawaii for 25 years.

Update
by: Gary T

Koko has settled in very nicely in the Pacific Northwest. She has gained a little weight as she was underweight when she arrived. Koko has the biggest heart of any dog we have ever known. She loves her rides and is first to the door. If you ask if she wants a ride, she answers. She is the only dog I have ever known that asks or permission to eat her dinner and gives thanks & kisses half way through her dinner. Every afternoon she and BooBoo watch animal planet in their own chairs. Hopefully after we can sell our properties, we can move back to Hawaii as we miss it very much.
