Hawaii County Helicopter Searching For A Shark

by Joe
(Kona )

Looking for a shark

Looking for a shark

Chances are the county helicopter was trailing a big shark in this photo taken with the webcam on Saturday afternoon.

This photo was taken just above the left bay setting of the webcam. A big shark was spotted last week down by Kahaluu Beach Park and this could be the same one.

The only time this helicopter flys is if some one is in trouble or they're looking for a shark.

Unfortunately it was a tourist from San Francisco spear fishing.

Usually shallow water black out is what gets these guys. We lose a few every year from it.

Update- Not a shark
by: Joe

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure it's not a shark they were looking for.

After grabbing my binoculars I could see the Fire Department's dive boat on scene after the above photo was taken.

This means they're looking for someone. The outcome in these situations is usually grim. More people drown in Hawaii annually than any other state in the country.
