Guarded optimism | Moving Back To Hawaii

by Bob
(Waikoloa)

My wife and I lived in Waikoloa in 2003 for a year. Then moved back to the mainland but have decided to again stay on the Big Island. We have been so discouraged by landlords and property managers. Our feeling is that don't really want to encourage people to move here.

Our experience hasn't been very positive. But I will keep trying. We get some negative comments about the "haole's" taking over.

I am of Japanese descent and look like a native. Hawaii is a beautiful land and my wife and I love the culture and people. Wish we didn't have to put up with the snobbery and negativism.

Suggestions
by: Joe

If your kids are in good schools. Stay where you are until they graduate.

Hawaii just can't get it's act together on the education front. This year we had less school days than any other state due to the state and teachers union arguing over money.

Optimism~
by: Anonymous

Well, I am glad to see a bit of optimism. I visited Oahu 3 years ago and fell in love with the island air~ Yes, cliche--I know this.

I am finally finishing my BSN RN degree and have secretly wished to be able to relocate to one of the islands, possibly Oahu. I am married and have two children, young teens.

I think I would like to live on the island for a year or two for starters...any suggestions? I really do feel that this would be a great experience for my daughters to have.

Moving Back To Hawaii
by: Joe

It's funny, I know a few people who've moved to Hawaii lived here and then moved back to the mainland and then moved back to Hawaii.

Just something about this place that draws you back here. One guy did it 3 times! He's been back this last time over 10 years so I think it's going to stick this time for him.

No matter where you go there are going to be people that don't like you. But there are 10 times more that WILL like you.
