King Kamehameha Beach Hotel
There are four cheap Kona hotels located on Alii Dr. in close proximity to the pier.
They all have been here a long time. This area is rich in history.
You have the first church ever built in Hawaii located here in the village. Kamehameha the Great lived here adjacent to the heiau that is in front of the Kona Beach Hotel next to the pier.
Oops, I’m getting ahead of myself. Sorry. The four cheap Kona hotels are: Kona Beach Hotel, Kona Seaside Hotel, Uncle Billy’s and the Royal Kona Resort.
One of my favorites of the four hotels is the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. Those that live here call it the “King Kam.” I’ve stayed there a couple of times over the years and thought it was a very good value for the money
The “King Kam” is located at the beginning of Alii Dr. It has it’s own beach
In 2010 the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel under went refurbishment and it’s gorgeous. I don’t think there’s a better value at the lower priced hotels on the big island.
My wife and I stayed there 1 night in April of 2011 due to having our carpets cleaned and not being able to go home till they dried over night. Check out the video I shot there and the pics.
Update March 2012 - I can not recommend this hotel under it’s current Marriot ownership. The food sucks. And the new rooms are already getting run down from some of the comments posted on Konafriends Facebook page. We recently had dinner at their buffet and posted about it on Konafriends FB page and there was a total of over 30 comments from others that were all pretty negative about the hotel concerning both the rooms and the food. Too bad. I used to really like this place.
I would probably stay at the Royal Kona Resort instead if I wanted to stay close to the village.

The above are photos of a standard room at the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel
The Kona Seaside Hotel is across the street. I’ve never stayed there but have read reviews online about the place and they are very favorable. I have walked through the grounds of the hotel and they are well kept. Below is a shot of the Kona Seaside Pool.

Next is Uncle Billy’s…
Uncle Billy’s is kind of like the Motel 6 of the Pacific. Located on Alii Dr. at the corner of Hualalai Rd. It’s the third furthest of the three cheap hotels from the pier.

Read some online reviews of Uncle Billy’s and make make your own decision.
And down at the other end of the “strip” of Kailua Village is last but not least is the Royal Kona Resort.
If none of these hotels sound appealing, make sure to check out the finest Kona resorts here.
