An Aussie in Hawaii

Aloha! I'm an Aussie girl heading to Kona in 4 weeks. I'm keen to hear what the locals think are the highlights of the island and what's the best way to get around?

Also...a beautiful place like Kona would attract many a tourist and tourists attract those who want to take the silly tourist's money...so are there any major tourist traps that I should be wary of?

The best way to get around is by renting a car. I don't think we really have any tourist traps here. Kona is still a small town.
