Aloha Airlines Stops Flying

by Joe
(Kona )

I just got this notice from Hawaiian airlines.

As you may have heard, Aloha Airlines will stop service at the end of the day, March 31st.

During this very difficult time, we anticipate that there will be a heavy burden on our Reservations call center, as well as at the airports. We have added 6,000 interisland seats to continue to serve you and help accommodate the additional passengers.

It won't be long before those $39 GO airline fares will be nothing but a memory. If you think GO will stay at $39 bucks you're sadly mistaken. They can't. Its below their operating cost and now that Aloha's going to be out of the way, GO will probably double their prices is my guess.

Its boat time!
by: Mike Crow

I say to heck with flying I will hire a local with a boat a lot cheaper and more fun. I'm tired of getting screwed by some airlines that could care less about my safety but more about money.

I was right
by: Joe Trent

I was doing some work on the site and came across this old post.

As I said below or above? Sure enough, inter-island fares went over $100 each way as soon the court cases were done.

Hawaiian and Go
by: Joe

Hawaiian and Go are still in business. Mokulele is still running... Island Air is available.

The ferry thing has been tried here. They left in a cloud of burning rubber... after the CAVE people got done with them.

So who else then will be the airline flying between the islands? And why isn't the ferry's running it just makes good sense to have them.

so sad
by: Paul Earp - lost haule

62 years of memories. It's very sad that something so part of modern day Hawaii is leaving. I even remember them when I lived in Honolulu in the late 60's early 70's.

My thoughts and hopes for those that are negatively impacted by this through jobs and business.

Re: Investigate
by: Joe

I don't know if they broke any laws, but GO admitted from the beginning that they were going after market share with below cost fares.

Hawaiian Airlines got a judgment against them for $80 million dollars just a couple months ago because of their business practices.

The bad part is even if Aloha gets satisfaction in court it's too late for them.

I feel sorry for Aloha because I'm pretty sure they weren't getting rich even when they were charging $85 or $90 bucks each way.

I've been in business here going on 12 years and I know it ain't no picnic surviving here in Hawaii.

Pulling out my crystal ball... it says in the near future inter island tickets will be at least $100 each way...

Last nights news said Aloha's case won't go to court till October. Airfares should stay artificially low till then at least. J.T.

Predatory Airline Pricing
by: Hans

The State of Hawaii's Dep of Commerce should investigate air carriers' competitive intra state fares to ensure that they are in fact "cost based" and not predatory.
