This is Sid with Akamai Appliance. I sincerely apologize for not being able to accomodate your tentatively scheduled appointment through Lowes. Under our agreement with Lowes, it states we have a "72 hour" time period after receiving a dispatch from Lowes to respond to a customer. I did though leave a voice message on the phone number you provided to Lowes, stating we would need to reschedule for the following tuesday. It sounds like the problem with your brand new washer was with the installation, that maybe your water valves were not turned "ON", which I did try and "walk you through" to check. Next, we do not get paid for a job we do not complete - that is just not the way this system works(although I wish it did). Again, I apologize you did not feel any "aloha" from my company- We value our customers and do try our best to satisfy their needs.
Aloha Sid Yee

Warranty repair by: Beth and Brad
When a company contracts with an extended warranty company to do repairs, they allow the warranty company to view their schedule, and allow them to book the appointments. If something had come up and Akamai couldn't, in fact, honor that guarantee, they should have contacted us immediately, so the warranty company could find someone else for us. They receive full payment from the store who sold the appliance (in this case, Lowe's), the repair wasn't for free. No, our job is to let everyone know that we all have choices on this island about where to spend our money, and if Akamai doesn't honor a commitment, they need to be dropped from the warranty company's list. It made Lowe's look bad, a reflection on them, and they agree that this is completely unacceptable behavior. Akamai would have gotten paid by Lowe's, instead of by us personally, because of the warranty issue. I'm glad your experience with them was positive, ours was absolutely not and we intend to tell anyone who will listen to shop somewhere else. We then found a GREAT repair person through the warranty company, and it took him all of about 1 minute to do something in the back that allowed cold water to fill the tub for a wash. He'll get paid by Lowe's for his time, and he received a hefty tip from us for being honorable and arriving even sooner than the warranty people said he would. THAT'S aloha - if Akamai didn't want to allow the warranty company to book appointments, then he should remove his name from the list.

Welcome to Hawaii by: J.T.
I don't know how the warranty company could possibly guarantee when Sid is going to show up. This ain't the mainland.
Stuff happens in the repair world side of the business that puts you way behind schedule that is beyond your control. I know because I run a repair shop during the day. And I deal with warranty companies that are slow to pay.
So, if I got a guy that calls me with cash in hand, guess who's getting their stuff fixed first?
Maybe that's not the case at all here, don't know, I wasn't there, but I do know Sid and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him in the future.

Bad, bad, bad - by: Beth and Brad
Do NOT, under any circumstances, use Akamai Appliances in Kona for anything. Our extended warranty came in handy on our brand new washer/dryer due to a problem with the cold setting on the washer. We called the extended warranty company yesterday (Thursday) and was told Akamai would come out today (Friday), sometime between 8:00 and 5:00, to make this simple repair. We waited all morning long, and finally called Akamai Appliances, just to see if they had an accurate time that they would be showing up, so we could work around their schedule today. We were told categorically that they may come on Monday, or Tuesday, or some other day, (when we would have already left the island, and renters were going to be in the unit, and who wants renters distrubed?) but they were NOT, repeat NOT, going to honor the warranty company's information about coming today. Period. And worse, they never called us to tell us this, WE had to call THEM, thinking we could get an accurate arrival time. They are rude, obnoxious, and absolutely without aloha. Use anybody else - when a company doesn't honor an extended warranty company's information about when service can be expected, they don't deserve your money.

This guy has an old fashion work ethic. by: Joe
1. He came to the house when he said he would.
2. He fixed the problem.
3. He didn't charge enough. (I'm going to talk to him about that)
Later on my icebox had another problem and I called Sid. Same story. He came when he said he would.
This time though the fridge needs a part that requires replacement of one of the doors. Originally Sid thought it was something else and now he wants to give me some money back, to make a long story short. Give me money back... (Geez, I got to talk with him, never get rich that way.)
Yes, I think Sid should be voted King of Kona Appliance Repair!
