King Kamehameha Day Parade

Saturday was the annual King Kamehameha Day parade here in Kailua Kona. Instead of pictures I decided to shoot video this year. It's basicly the highlights of the parade, about 5 minutes worth total.

Kilauea Volcano Is Rumbling

Since last weekend Volcano National Park has had limited access due to the numerous earthquakes and new lava flows.

The best way to see the new lava flows is from the air.

For the latest volcano update and a good photo go to the Goverment Volcano Information Website

Check the above website for the latest update if you're planning on visting the volcano in the near future because today the park was closed. It's 90 miles each way from Kona to the park, that would be a long drive just to get turned away at the gate.

Volcano Stops Flowing Lava

The horizon has been crystal clear all week due to the lack of vog. This is like smog except it's from the volcano instead of a factory.

If you look on the webcam you can see the horizon clearly. Usually you can't because of the vog in the air. Funny, recently there were a lot of little earthquakes down at the volcano and now in the last week it's practically dried up and went to sleep. Chances are it'll start flowing lava again and the vog will return, but I'm going to enjoy the clear skies for the time being.

Annual Fireworks Show

Wednesday night at 8 there will be a fireworks show over Kailua Bay...maybe. Seems the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce is short 6,000 dollars.

If you're interested in donating a few bucks you can send it their address. Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce | (808) 329-1758 | 75-5737 Kuakini Hwy. Suite #208 | Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 Hawaii

For those of you who don't live here, log on to the webcam that night and I'll point it at the fireworks. That is if there is a show.
