Actually there are a lot of interesting things to do and see on Oahu. One of the interesting things we did on our week "off island" was we went to the new Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island at Pearl Harbor.
The museum tells a lot of the aviation story of WWll in the Pacific theatre. On display is a real Japanese Zero, a B-25, a replica P-40 Mustang (it looked real to me) and a couple of other planes.
If you've seen the movie Pearl Harbor and remember the control tower shown in the movie during the attack scene, the museum is right next door to it. Actually in a WWll era hanger that has been turned into the museum. And a totally first class one I might add.
Tickets for the Arizona Memorial, USS Bowfish, USS Missouri (Mighty Mo) and the Pacific Aviation Museum are purchased right next to the Bowfish, then you board a trolley which takes you to the Mighty Mo or Museum. No civilian cars are allowed on Ford Island.

Cheap Kona Vacation
While in Honolulu last week hundred dollar bills were flowing out of my wallet like the great flood. I guess I just wanted to feel like a naive tourist. Why I don't know.
I'm not going to let that happen to you here in Kona,... (Read Article)

Kona webcam to become WhaleCam
One great thing about the new web cam that I've installed is... you can ZOOM in when you see a whale go cruising by. Hence the Kona whale cam! At this time you can not pan or tilt the camera.
This coming Saturday I will being moving the camera outside to it's permanent location which will show you a great view of the coast.
This evening I spotted a whale, the 2nd of the season. I zoomed in with the webcam and it was fabulous. In the next couple of weeks, whales should be showing up on the webcam a regular basis.
You Will Be Able To Point and Tilt the Webcam
After I move the camera outside I will program it so YOU can track humpback whales, the UFO parasail boat and cruiseships.

Kona WebCam Update
January 13, 2006-- The Kona webcam traffic has been HUGE! That is why sometimes the video is super sloooooow. I'm working on fixing it. Probably take a week or so to get it resolved. But I gaurantee it will be worth the wait.
If the webcam is running slow, try coming back later, maybe you'll catch it when traffic is down and the video speed will be much better.

Kona Whale Cam... Best Hours to Watch
A couple of Humpback whales came cruising by the house today and what's cool is people from all over the world got to see it.
I was working on setting up the new location for the webcam when I happened to look up and see a whale breach. So immediately I started tracking the mother and calf with the camera. This lasted for about 10 minutes or so.
I've ordered a special enclosure for the camera, when I receive it, the webcam will be permanently installed outside. Until then I'm bringing the camera inside at night.
The Best Times to See Whales
In the morning till around 9:30 AM. Then from 12 noon till about 2PM. Then again from 4 to 5 PM. These are the hours that I've noticed whales the most.

Whale Breaches In Front of Webcam
It was right around noon today when a whale breached right in front of the webcam. I don't know how many lucky people were watching at the time but all I can say is it was spectacular!
I was sitting out here on the lanai working on my laptop when I saw the whale, immediately I zoomed in and caught the breach. Awesome.
Sundays is my day to work on various web projects, if you turn the webcam around you probably will see me sitting here with my laptop. I'll also be whale watching. So hang out with me on the webcam on Sundays and we'll whale watch together. :-)
