Broken surfboard

A couple of days this week we had a large surf advisory for the Kona side of the island. Notice the reef sticking up to the surfer's right as he approaches. When it's low tide you can see just how shallow the water is above the reef.

Kona Surfer

It just amazes me how Kona surfers and boogie boarders know where the reef is. Even then sometimes "OOPS" happens. As evidenced below. There went 4 or 5 hundred bucks in the trash. Or next to it.

Kona Rental Car Information

I've just added a page here Kona Car Rental I know it sounds weird but check it out anyways. I've added a good tip about what to do when you arrive at the airport.

And I've made some suggestions about what types of rental car you should get. If you see anywhere that I can improve on the page or something I'm missing, please drop me a note on my "contact Joe" form on the navigation menu on the left side of this page.

Tiger Sharks Spotted Off Hapuna

Yesterday Wednesday August 30th, 3 very large Tiger sharks were spotted off the Kohala coast from Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea beach and Spencer Beach Park.

Tigers are not to be messed with and deserve the utmost respect.

Betsy Tranquilli a reporter for West Hawaii Today wrote an excellent article about the recent shark sightings here: West Hawaii Today Shark Story.

So if you're thinking about going to the beach over the holiday weekend, READ THE ABOVE STORY. Hui hou, Uncle Joe.

Pink Plumeria

Plumeria flowers come in pink, white and yellow. I took this photo on Napo'opo Rd while heading to Kealakekua Bay. The Plumeria are so beautiful and bloom year round. These are the flowers that are used to create the most popular flower leis.
